Personal

About me... My name is Katie De Sousa (pronounced like 'Dee-So-Zuh'), I'm 20 years old and live with my family and my cat Thomas (who I firmly believe is part rabbit) in New Brunswick, Canada. I took a year of college and studied animation and 3D, but I decided it wasn't for me... I did have a great time though, the school I went to was fantastic and I learned a lot, though I strongly prefer painting over Animation, thus here I am working as a freelance painter quite happily :)

Most of my time is spent doing something artistic, painting mostly, I try my hand at sculpting now and then but usually fail miserably. Some day maybe I'll make something decent enough to show to someone other than the inside of a trash can! I paint figures now and then (mostly for my Fiancee) and I have my own little hobby of painting Asian-Ball-Joint Dolls, or Dollfies, you can check out my dollfie website here if you're curious~ Also I have a flickr account I upload photos now and then, I'm a terrible photographer, but oh well, here it is anyway!

When I'm not doing something artistic I'm usually playing video games, reading, or watching movies...

Favorite Games: Legend of Zelda (Ocarina, Majora's Mask, and Twilight Princess), Halo, Elder Scrolls 4, Dead or Alive, Chrono cross, StarWars Battlefront2, Okami, Sims2, Klonoa2, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, and I used to have a very unhealthy addiction to Ragnarok Online, I quit playing but it's still one of my favorites!

Favorite Books: Jane Austen's Emma, Pride and Prejudice, and Mansfield Park, Philip Pullman's His Dark  Materials Trilogy (Golden Compass, Subtle Knife, Amber Spyglass), J.K.Rowling's Harry Potter (ahaa.. I love harry potter), Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Stephanie Meyer's Twilight books, Neil Gaiman's Startdust, and Diana Wynn Jones' Howl's Moving Castle and Castle in the Air. I'm in love with Brian Froud's 'World of Faerie' and his book with Alan Lee called 'Faeries' and I'm also a fan of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales <3

Favorite Movies: Monty Python's Holy Grail, Princess Bride, Hero, Pride and Prejudice, Lord Of The Rings (all of them I love equally), Pirates Of The Caribbean (I like them all but I think the first remains my favorite), 300, Happy Feet, Most classical Disney animations, Cars, Toy Story (1&2 but 2 was my favorite), Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow (and like.. any thing else Tim Burton lays his hands on) Star Wars (I'm more keen on 4,5, and 6, but the art from 1, 2, and 3 was so beautiful I enjoy them purely for their aesthetic qualities), The Protector, Spider-man (all of them), and the 1st and 2nd X-Men Movies.

About my art... I started drawing at a very young age, and I guess over the years I realized I don't actually possess any other real talents (or I'm too lazy to develop them), so I just stuck with art. Also because I love colors.
I learn a lot and get a lot of inspiration from different artists, here's a few that I really admire (in no particular order):
Norman Rockwell, Alan Lee, Brian Froud, William Bouguereau, Linda Bergkvist, Anry, Arnold Tsang, Jo Chen, Andrew Hou, Natascha Röösli, Mélanie Delon, Hong Kuang, Svetlin Velinov, Soa Lee, Jason Chan, and many more I can't even think of at the moment...

The technical side of my artwork is a Fujitsu N6410 Lifebook (Intel Core Duo Processor T2400 (2GHz), ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (256mb), 2.00GB of RAM), and a Wacom Intuos 3 6x8 tablet with Painter 7, Painter X, and Photoshop CS3.

About the Website... Yumedust was a dorky pseudonym that I made up a while ago (Yume means dream in Japanese... yeah I was really into anime at the time). The website was designed poorly, and coded even worse by myself. I'm no website designer, but it looks decent enough and serves it's purpose I guess :)
I'm hosted by the wonderful bunch of people at Vovoid, thanks guuuyyss! Many many hugs <3

Well that's about it, I'll stop blabbering and leave you with a cute picture of Thomas and my Spidey sandals I got for $5. I'm deeply in love with those sandals.
